Long-term exposure to drugs on the body causes symptoms of drug addiction, which may vary depending on the type of substance taken and the severity of the addiction. Symptoms of drug addiction vary in intensity from person to person,  because we differ in general health and mental condition. Let us see the Drug addiction symptoms and popular drugs.

It is important to distinguish between the symptoms of long-term drug use by a drug addict and the effects of single consumption.

The most serious effects of drug addiction

Drug addiction is a disease that leads to the ruin of the whole organism of a sick person, and also has a negative impact on his family, professional environment and contributes to his conflicts with the law.

The most popular drugs

Drugs are highly addictive psychoactive substances that affect the body and psyche of the person consuming them. Despite being divided into soft and hard drugs, natural and synthetic,  any drug can be highly addictive, physically and psychologically dependent.

The most popular drugs are:

Marijuana  – a substance of natural origin with a relaxing and stimulating effect, works primarily on the nervous and respiratory systems. Available in the form of dried leaves and knopi inflorescences, roasted in twists or glass barrels. In Poland, illegal marijuana is used in medicine abroad.

Popular Drugs

Heroin  – a strong synthetic drug with a stimulating effect. Heroin is a derivative of morphine, and it increases the body’s resistance to pain. It is taken intravenously or nasally.

Cocaine  – a natural stimulant drug. It has a strong influence on the central nervous system, causing hallucinations similar to those in schizophrenia. It is made from coca leaves, taken as a white powder snorted through the nose (“paths”), and smoked with a pipe or injected.

LSD  – the so-called “acid”, a synthetic drug, strongly stimulating. It affects the nervous system, causing visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations. It is taken orally (in the form of paper “stamps” or sugar cubes impregnated with it) or under the eyelid.

Amphetamine  – or “speed”, a synthetic drug with a strong stimulating effect. Taken as white tablets, clear crystals, or powder (white to brick red in colour), smoked, orally or injected.

Adhesives and inhalants  – not strictly speaking drugs, but also very addictive. These are adhesives, solvents, sprays, cleaning fluids, powders and pastes with a characteristic strong odour, intoxicating and even hallucinogenic properties.

Am I a drug addict?

If you are experimenting with drugs, it may be time for you to answer the following questions honestly.  The line between drug use and drug addiction is so fluid and elusive that it is never too early to ask yourself.

  • Are you taking ever greater doses of the drug to feel the same effect?
  • Have you acted dishonestly to get a plot of land? Did you steal, borrow, or give back the money, lied to, or cheated on someone to take your dose?
  • Do you feel an irresistible urge to eat?
  • you feel that you are being forced to take your next intake of medicine or some kind of compulsion?
  • Do you reach for the next dose despite the decisions on abstinence?
  • Does the thought of the drug come first in response to difficulties or emotions?
